Please note that I am only speaking of my experience with one stylist, and I am guessing that she is the most junior stylist at this location.

I moved into the area last fall and had resisted finding a new stylist since I loved my previous stylist and have had poor experiences with people who are not skilled with cutting hair that is fine but there is plenty of it. I use Aveda products and salons so I assumed that an Aveda stylist would be skilled and I would be more likely to have a good experience choosing the local Aveda salon. I was excited to get an appointment the next morning when I called.
When I arrived, it was clear the that location was on the newer side and the displayed products were quite appealing. I explained to the stylist that I do not spend much time on my hair and use almost no product. I also told her to avoid putting in extensive layers since this makes my hair look like it is very thin due to my fine hair. I was clear that I basically wanted an inch off of my current cut (essentially a lob that is long in the front, with bangs swiped across my forehead) but I was open to some changes to it. An inch was cut off from the overall length and my bangs were freed from their overgrowth. She began to completely remove the longer front and I was okay with the change. Then she began to make it angle in the front instead, which I was not really psyched about, but I assumed it would be gradual and skillfully done, so I was willing to go with it. I should have become nervous when I saw the texturizing/thinning shears come out, but I wanted to trust what was happening. When I saw the end product I was a bit shocked, but I assumed that I just needed to get used to it.

By the end of the day, I was upset but there was no way to replace the removed hair and I did not trust that the stylist would be able to fix it. I also thought that maybe I was crazy and it could be a perfectly good haircut for someone else. I was going back where I had moved to the area from the next day and my old stylist said she would fix it for me. When she saw how the front had been cut away, she made a face and said' "Oh no." I asked her if the way that it was layered and texturized in the front was acceptable and she said no. As I had worried, thinning shears whould not have been used to texturize the hair framing my face and had resulted in some oddly short pieces halfway back on my head since hair had been taken from farther back and pulled forward when the thinning had been done. My old stylist then told me we would have to take a lot of the length off in order to fix what had been done the previous day. I was pretty upset with myself for having to pay for a haircut that I didn't want in the first place 2 times, since I was trying to grow my hair out previously.

I only know of my experience with what I assume is the less educated and tenured stylist. It is quite possible that another stylist could have done a wonderful job, which is what I would expect from an Aveda salon.
